I am one of those that go on Pinterest just to look at pretty wreaths that people make/sell. I’ve seen some gorgeous ones on Etsy, but the ones I love are forever the most expensive. Last week at Michael’s they had a crazy sale going on, and I saw in their fake flower section that the spring flowers were 60% off! Cha-ching. I THEN saw the daisies that were originally $2.99 were only 75 cents a piece. A very exciting moment. And then a light bulb went off in my head – I realized I should make our own spring/summer wreath this year! I used a 50% off coupon on an 18″ grapevine wreath, so I ended up getting it for about $2.50. The flowers totaled about $7. I had everything else to make the wreath, which I’ll go through below. Even if you don’t have everything, it will still be under $15, and I think that’s a steal for an awesome wreath!
At first I started out with these colors and flowers…I was originally planning on covering the whole wreath with the flowers but then I remembered I had painted a wooden “J” last summer and it’s just been sitting on the porch. I thought it would look perfect on the wreath attached with some twine. I didn’t want to re-paint it, so I got a couple more flowers in navy blue to pull the colors together.
And here’s the wreath I used (find a similar one here)…
Since the stems on these flowers are pretty long, I just cut them with some wire cutters. You can see in this picture how much space I left on the stem to tuck them into the branches of the wreath.
I was planning on having to hot glue the flowers onto the wreath, but they slid right into the branches and seemed really secure so I just left them. You of course can add some glue if they seem loose at all! I got this “J” last summer at Michaels for less than $3 (you can also find some good ones here if you search for your letter). I used painters tape to paint the stripes. I used Martha Stewart acrylic paint in the colors Summer Haze and Wild Blueberry. I added on the “Welcome” by hand using Wedding Cake by Martha Stewart as well.
And both of our front doors like to be weird and not close when a wreath hanger is on them so I hang our wreaths with ribbon or burlap. I used a piece of burlap for this one.

This is absolutely adorable! I love the blue flowers, it’s not a color you see very often on wreaths, but it’s perfect! I found a really cute butterfly wreath here https://www.homeyou.com/10-colorful-ways-to-spring-ify-your-porch I think I’m going to combine both of these ideas for a perfect summer wreath! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much Shanae! Love the butterfly wreath 🙂 Let me know if you end up making a wreath, I’d love to see! – Rissa
