As you know, I’m currently attempting to make our fireplace mantel extremely appealing since it’s the first thing guests see when they walk into our house. I needed to come up with one last cool DIY to do for the mantel to make it perfect (a post on the finished mantel will be up next week). So, I decided on making some wine bottles matte black! I’ve seen these types of bottles for sale in places like Pottery Barn and Home Goods, but I’m not paying for something I can make myself, people! lol. So I took a couple wine bottles and a champagne bottle, matte black spray paint and goo gone to get the labels off the wine bottles. Ugh. This was the hardest part. Took me 30 minutes to get the labels to come off, and I was only successful with two of the bottles. One bottle was hopeless – stubborn labels! The goo gone actually wasn’t being a ton of help for me, so I soaked the bottles in warm water for a few minutes and was able to peel and scrape off the labels.
Here are the bottles before anything was done to them. Note that I didn’t end up using this chalkboard spray paint. I changed my mind last minute and used a regular matte black paint, but obviously if you do this you can use any type of spray paint you’d like!
The bottles after I got the labels off, all ready to be painted.
After two layers of spray paint I let them sit out to fully dry.
And here’s the finished result, all pretty up on the mantel. I’ve already gotten compliments 🙂
Now go out and spray paint something!
They look great! I need to decorate my mantel too. It’s so awkward right now since it’s bare. Completely bare.
Thank you! It’s actually pretty fun decorating it lol. Home Goods has some awesome and funky vases, too that look great on a mantel. I just found a really cool one there!
