I’ve had this random whiteboard for a few years now, most likely purchased from Michael’s. It came with a light wood frame, which I painted green after getting it. I decided it needed some change. It had scratches on it, so I decided to use some chalkboard spray paint and give it a makeover. I liked the green frame, but we’re painting our kitchen green, so I didn’t want them matching. I tried out a khaki color, but I didn’t like that color too much so I decided to use some metallic silver spray paint and hoped it would turn out ok. I love it!
Check out my whiteboard to chalkboard makeover:
Here’s the whiteboard before. You can clearly see some scratches.
I used some painter’s tape to cover the frame.
And then I did 2 coats of chalkboard paint. A couple days after this I noticed some scratching on the board already, so I did another layer of chalkboard paint. So I’d recommend you do 3 layers.
Here it is with the khaki colored frame, getting ready for another color. I like the color, I just don’t think it would go well with our kitchen. Our kitchen is mostly white, will have green walls and mostly black and stainless steel appliances, so I’d like to keep it matchy lol.
I used this Valspar Metallic spray paint. And you’ll also need the help of an adorable Golden Retriever to do this project.
And get ready for it…the final result!
What do you think of the metallic frame? I’m liking it! And I like it A LOT more as a chalkboard rather than a whiteboard!
Thanks for stopping by!
