This project is so cute and simple you can literally do it with your little one, mom, sister, friend, neighbor, anyone! It’s fun and easy, and there are so many possibilities with colors! I randomly came across this little wooden mermaid shaped piece in Michael’s the other day and realized I could totally paint the adorable “Mermaid kisses & starfish wishes” quote on it for our front porch, which is nautical themed. I have this printable on my Etsy shop that people have seemed to like, and it’s similar to that!
Here is what the wooden mermaid looks like when I bought it (purchased for $2 and used paint I already had on hand!)…
I used Craft Smart acrylic paint in the shade Mediterranean Blue (obsessing over this color currently)…
I painted the quote by hand, and if you’re really not sure about this part, trust me you can do it! Just go slow, and if you really think you’ve messed up, let it dry and paint over it with the blue so you can start again. No big deal. Plus, you can probably use white stickers and even mod podge over them to make sure everything stays in place.
Next came the starfish, which I thought just brought the whole sign together. You can leave them off if you think it looks perfect as is 🙂 Very simple to do these though, just draw a star shape, and I added in little dots like so…
And here she is all painted and dried!
Just hanging out on my anchor…Yes I am weird and posed my mermaid. I was looking for a good place to display her and then it hit me…I will add a hook onto the back of her to hang her up on the porch wall!
I really love how it came out…I was thinking this would also look gorgeous in coral colors as well!
Even if you needed to purchase paints for this project, it would still total less than $5! Such a good deal for a sign you’re sure to get compliments on. This would also look great in a nautical themed bedroom or bathroom! If you create this sign, please send me pictures! I would LOVE to see what colors you chose.
