So we’ve hopped on the peg board crazy train. I’ve been thinking for a long time that a peg board pan holder in our kitchen would be amaze-balls. After talking about it for what seems like YEARS, I finally talked Charlie into it by showing him some pictures I saw in a magazine. I got a huge sheet at Lowe’s for about $17 (not sure if they sell smaller pieces), and had them cut two 4 foot by 3 foot pieces. There was an extra piece that’s a little bit smaller. The extra piece will probably go in the garage to hang tools and such. We decided to hang one of the bigger pieces on the only empty wall in the kitchen. We’ve seemed to run out of pan space in our cabinets, and some of them are up way too high since our ceilings are high as hell. I literally need a step stool to even reach our microwave, but that’s a whole other topic.
So to solve this problem (a little), we hung the peg board. Just a little warning, our kitchen doesn’t have great lighting. These are the best pictures you’ll ever get in there lol. Here’s what it was before…
So yep, that’s the wall. I totally forgot to take a picture of the wall with just the wood support pieces on it, but here you can see how we secured the peg board to the wall with 3 pieces of wood. We’re a bit paranoid since our house is officially over 100 years old now, we definitely wanted to make sure this bad boy was safely screwed into studs in the wall since it is holding a few pounds. So here is the peg board screwed onto the wood…
So now that the peg board was on the wall, the big question was…what color should we paint it?! I was thinking either a darker grey (the kitchen is light grey) and Charlie was thinking bright red (the accent color of the kitchen is red). I know, I know…complete opposite colors of each other lol. We decided to live life on the wild side and go with red, after all if it looked bad we could just re-paint it. I got two sample sized colors of Behr’s Candy Apple red at Home Depot. I LOVE their sample sizes! So many possibilities with those! 🙂
But anyway, here it is with two coats…it needed four coats…
We let it dry for over 24 hours and then added some pans…
We LOVE it! And we love the red. So if you’re doing a project like this, I totally recommend going with a pop of color. When people walk into our kitchen now and see this they think it looks so cool. It’s definitely an attention grabber. I also thought chalkboard paint would look badass as well. We’ll try that next time!
Not only is it a space saver, it’s also pretty 🙂
Let me know if you’ve done any peg board projects, we love them!
