I found a really cool looking flower picture on Pinterest, and decided I wanted to create my own version. All I did was get a canvas, which I had some left over canvas from when I took some painting classes (link at the bottom of this post to where I bought mine). I painted the canvas black with oil paint (you can use acrylic though if you really want it to dry quickly. I let my canvas dry for about 3 days with the oil paint). I then took some scrapbook paper that I already had (great selection on Amazon), and used all of the black, white and grey pieces I could find. I cut them into petal shapes for the flower we’re going to create.
Here are the products I used – glue stick, mod podge and the cut up scrapbook paper.
I also used a sponge to apply the mod podge to the canvas. It worked great!
I laid out the cut up scrapbook paper into the shape I liked for the flower, then I took each piece and put a little glue on the back to keep it in place for when I used the mod podge.
Here it is with a layer of mod podge over it, I ended up doing 2 layers. I let the first layer dry for about 15-20 minutes. Don’t worry – it dries clear.
And here’s the final result! I love it! I think it’s so cute and would look good anywhere in the new house, but I originally was thinking more for my new office. I used the black, white and greys to match the office, but obviously this would look great with any colored paper you want!
Let me know what you all think! I would love to see your creations if any of you decide to do this project 🙂
