Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Once Thursday is over, it’s all about Christmas shopping and decorating, and I’m back with a DIY project for you to hang in your home this Christmas season! I have been loving advent calendars lately, but a lot of the ones I have seen are super expensive. I decided to DIY one of course! This is an awesome and fun project you can use year after year, and your little ones will love counting down to Christmas with you!
Here’s what the final project looks like…and trust me, it’s super easy and you probably have a lot of the items already to make one!
I actually had a canvas already (16″x20″), that I painted a quote on last year, but I didn’t love how it came out so I painted over it using Martha Stewart vintage paint in grey. I did 2 coats of that, waited about an hour for it to be completely dry, and then painted the numbers on first using Martha Stewart acrylic paint in Wedding Cake.
I then painted the Merry Christmas on…
After the paint completely dried (I waited another hour), I hot glued some silver glitter ribbon onto the canvas. I wrapped it on the sides and glue it to the pieces of wood on the back of the canvas to hide it.
And I’ll be using some ornaments I got on sale at Target at the end of last year (these were less than $3 for a pack of multi colored ornaments – has about 20 in there, I got 2 packs).
I love how it came out!
Project Totals:
Canvas: Using a coupon at Michael’s I got this for less than $5
Paints: Used paint I already had
Ornaments: $2.50
Ribbon: $1 at Michael’s
TOTAL: $8.50! Not bad for a calendar you can use year after year to countdown to Christmas!
Next week we’re going to hang this over the mantel and start the Christmas decorating! Once it’s hung up I’ll post pictures of our Christmas mantel decorated.
Until then, have a Happy Thanksgiving and be safe out there if you’re Black Friday shopping!
