I wanted to share this little project I did at the beginning of Summer in an upstairs hallway of ours. We have an addition on our house with vaulted ceilings and white trim and shelving everywhere, so when Charlie told me he wanted the room navy blue when we first moved in I was pretty hesitant. I imagine a lot of other people feel the same way I did – that a dark paint color will make your room look small and just too damn dark. Well, I’m here to tell you I WAS WRONG. I am officially obsessed with navy. But let me first say we didn’t end up going with a dark navy, it’s more of a medium shade of navy and it’s absolutely perfect. We decided to paint the hallway off of this room with extra paint of this same color and hang this beautiful seahorse picture on the wall (don’t forget I am a seahorse addict. Give me all the seahorse things).
So here is the hallway before the paint job (sorry the lighting is awful. It was gloomy on this day, which is actually the reason I decided to stay inside and get some painting done).
Another view of the hallway before…
And here it is after! WE LOVE IT!
The seahorse picture actually goes with it perfectly too. We bought that at Home Goods a few years ago and knew we wanted to hang it up here somewhere, and this spot turned out to be perfect. I almost wish this hallway was a little bit bigger so I could put a little corner table with a lamp or something in there, but it’s still an adorable little space.
This project took me only two hours and completely transformed the hallway. So the lesson today is: don’t be scared of navy blue! I say at least give it a try!
The color we used: Santorini Blue by Sherwin Williams
